How did the project start?

At the beginning of 2008 Fat Frog adopted Tomafund as their charity of the year. The charity was set up in memory of teenager Jordan Thompson who sadly lost his battle with Leukemia in 2007. Tomafund raises support and funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the Newcastle RVI. The charity needed a website that would raise awareness for their cause and also had the facility to accept donations.

As Tomafund was relatively new when Fat Frog got involved, the project began with creating an identity and brand for the charity. The brand was then implemented across a range of marketing materials including the website.

What options did you consider?

It was essential that the Tomafund website was quick and easy to update as the primary administrator was to be Jordan's Mum, Andrea Thompson, who had minimal experience of using the internet.

Andrea had a great deal of content for the site and also wanted it to feature a lot of photos of Jordan. All of Fat Frog's websites use our bespoke content management system which is simple and straightforward to use, however in order to make the administration of the website as easy as possible the designs were kept simple.

As Tomafund is affiliated with the Teenage Cancer Trust, it was stipulated that the new brand and website's primary colour should be blue.

Andrea had previously established a donations page with Just Giving, to which the new Tomafund site is linked.

What help and expertise did you receive?

The identity, brand and website were designed and developed entirely in house by the Fat Frog team.

The website was designer by Fat Frog's Laura Swaddle and programmed by Fat Frog's Phil Levy. Fat Frog are a multi disciplined agency and thus far have never needed to outsource any aspect of a website's development.

Did you face and challenges or learn any lessons?

The biggest challenge Fat Frog faced when developing the Tomafund site was trying to keep it as simple and easy to manage as possible for Andrea, who previously had very little experience of the internet, whilst also enabling it to hold the necessary amount of content.

What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?

Tomafund has now raised over £95000 of its £100000 target. The charity has been featured on regional television and is endorsed by Cheryl Cole of Girls Aloud.

What are your plans for the future?

Fat Frog will continue to work with Andrea and the Tomafund. We are currently considering possible ways to further develop the Tomafund website.
